Because of a combination of my delayed cell camera and his speediness!
Trix is laying on the floor watching TV with us. I am trying to read Jay an article on nutrition while he ties knots in fishing line. Trix is the only one actually watching the game.
Or shall I say he is watching the ball. I mean, literally, he is watching the pitch, then the hit. If the player hits it to right field, he looks to the left, if it is hit into left field he looks to the right of the TV, looking for where it went.
He just got up, looked around for his "real" ball, picked it up, walked up to the TV and dropped it in front of the pitcher.
This pup still ceases to amaze us :D
Trix successfully graduated puppy kindergarten and is now moving on to the "Basic Manners" class. I have to say, he was the star of the show ;)
A month has gone by since I last updated, time is flying!
Here are some of the things he's been up to:
~ playing Chuck-it! I threw the ball and it bounced over the split rail fence and he leapt over it like he had wings. It was unbelievable.
~ Creating: he made his own doggie door! When he was in the housebreaking phase, he would paw at the door. The screen happens to go down low and all the pawing put a tear in it. Because we are taking the house down, we decided not the spend the money to repair. Today I gave Trix a bully stick in the kitchen. He took it, turned around, ran through the kitchen, dining room and parlor over to the closed door and jumped right through the screen. 5 minutes later he was back,with about 3 inches of all paws and snout covered in mud, whimpering to come inside. The dog HAD to get that bully stick buried IMMEDIATELY. That's it for outdoor access with bullies. If bully sticks were money, we'd have about $50 buried in the backyard.
~ Water retrieves are unbelievable. This doggie loves to swim and retrieve the dummies. When it is Chase's turn, he goes completely bonkers then quickly settles down and watches. He IS a thinker.
~ Snuggling. He is one of the top snuggling dogs I've known.
~ Barking. He loves to hear himself, and he loves for us to hear him. Especially when he wants something. We ignore, he barks. It's getting better though. I think.
~Entertaining: he is an entertainer through and through and loves to put on shows, especially for visitors and Jay upon return home from work.
~Leash walking: summer on the Cape means dogs on the leashes. I hate that about this place. No place for the doggies to run free. Trix has gotten really good at loose leash walking. OK maybe not so good on the way to the water, but the way back is much better after a half hour of swimming :)
~Boat Launching: Trix went bait fishing with Jay and after sitting and watching Jay and his friend cast into the harbor from the boat, he decided that the fishing hooks weren't the only things getting to go for a swim. He jumped over the gunnel and into the harbor he went. He celebrated his successful launch by running top speeds up and down the docks.
Trix's retrieving abilities have blossomed into something amazing! He loves to swim and is having a ball with the dummy. We are limiting the retrieves to 5 per session, and he is jumping around like a Mexican jumping bean wanting more. It is awesome!
We also started puppy kindergarten and while I have never worked with an obedience dog, I think he would be incredible at it. He is so smart and such a thinker. We worked on "look" and "here" last week. He knows them after ONE training session! We have been reinforcing them all week but he comes when we call "here" like he was shot out of a cannon. When we say "look" he looks directly into our eyes and when we say "sit" he doesn't move until we release him. Of course all of this is reinforces with treats, for which he will do anything. Every time he does something else, we look at each other in disbelief. Look out Einstein...

Today Chase, Trix and I went to Nickerson and had a nice walk through the woods down to the pond. I brought a dummy for them to retrieve, as Trix has been doing some amazing retrieving work on land and in the water. I think if Chase could have one wish, it would be to live in eternity with a dummy in his mouth while swimming. It makes him so happy!
This happiness is rubbing off on Trix as he, too is loving the swim out to grab the dummy and bring it back. After a strong but short session for Trix and a strong and long session for Chase, we headed back home.
I brought Trix into the bathroom with me, so I could take a shower without the laundry basket being raided. While I was showering he poked his head around the shower curtain and then began to climb over the side of the tub and into the shower with me. I couldn't believe it!
Neither Chase nor Bailey has / had ever even come close to wanting to get into the tub!
Trix sat directly under the water and looked up at me: "This is much warmer than the pond".
I grabbed his puppy shampoo and bathed him while laughing out loud at the situation: I was showering with my dog.
Getting comfortable, he laid at my feet and attempted to catch "rain" drops falling down on him while I finished shampooing my own hair.
Something tells me this is not the last time we'll be this up close and personal!
